What happens in a private adult ADHD assessment?
My approach follows the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines for assessing and diagnosing ADHD in adults.
1) Phone consultation
A free 20 minute phone consultation to gather information about your current concerns and difficulties.
2) ADHD screening tools
ADHD screening questionnaires are sent to gather further information, helping to identify whether a you are likely to be experiencing signs and symptoms consistent with ADHD.
3) ADHD assessment (DIVA-5)
An ADHD assessment is undertaken with you using an assessment called the Diagnostic Interview Schedule (DIVA-5). A full developmental, medical and social history is also taken. The assessment typically lasts around 2 hours.
4) Diagnostic Report
A detailed written report is sent within 4 weeks of the assessment.
5) Feedback Consultation
You may choose an optional 50 minute consultation to discuss the report and recommendations.
6) Medication
If medication is considered appropriate, a referral to a Psychiatrist to assess and prescribe ADHD medication can be made.
